Great now I have the Brady Bunch theme song stuck in my head. So while this is all fresh in my mind, I am going to write/type it all out. We arrived at the hospital yesterday at 6:30am to be induced. My due date was July 22, so I was gettind induced a few days early. On Friday at my Dr. appt I was at 3 cm and still at 40%. So I was thinking I could have made some sort of progress between Friday and Monday (we had a fun/busy weekend that kept me moving). They got my pit going and I wasn't really feeling contractions until around 11, so at 11:45 they got me an epidural. The Dr had only been in once to check on me. I was so thankful for my fabulous nurse, Melinda. Melinda was my nurse with Ben and is super awesome. I contacted her when I found out my induction date to see if she could be my nurse again. She made it work so she was and I am grateful she did. Anyways... for some reason I wasn't making any progress (probably because my dr. hadn't broke my water yet). My dr. had a surgery in the OR, a c-section, 2 triage patients and ME. So me getting my water broke wasn't high on the list. So around 3pm he finally made it in to break my water. I was at 5cm after he broke my water. My in-laws stopped by to visit. After a little over an hour, they decided to go get Apple Cider slushies. Jackie said, if she hurries up and comes, I'll buy her a large triple chocolate blizzard. Well...Miss Josey must've been enticed because as Grandma and Grandpa were leaving, Melinda came in to check on my progress. Melinda checked me and sure enough there was her head. (While visiting with the in-laws I had started to feel contractions and I just attributed that to my epidural possibly wearing off and needing a re-fill.) So I had been ignoring all the pressure of her coming through the birth canal because I thought it was just contractions. So ONCE AGAIN I am left on the bed trying not to push out a baby that is TOTALLY ready to come. The Dr. was called and we ended up with at least 6 nurses in the room, with no dr. Melinda finally made the quick decision to have me go ahead and push (Josey's forehead was already out) and skip waiting on the dr. 1 big push and 1 tiny push and she was out. Melinda had told me earlier in the day, she didn't want to deliver a baby. I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention!! The dr. made it in time to deliver the placenta (that's the boring part). Too bad Melinda couldn't get what the dr. was getting paid though, since she delivered the baby. OH and as they were cleaning Josey off on my belly, one of the nurses kept referring to her as a he. This kinda threw me off, as well as Matt. But okay whatever, we had a boy. The silly nurse had mistaken a chunk of cord for boy parts.Mom and baby are doing well. We are smitten by her and can't wait to get to know her little spirit even better. Last night she slept SO well. The other 4 slept pretty crummy at the hospital (I don't blame them) and then were pro's when we got home. Hopefully Josey will keep up the good sleeping thing when we get home. She is so precious and absolutely PERFECT. It's amazing how tiny she seems compared with 3 of the 4 kids. Ally was 9.2, Cosette was 7.7, Ben was 9.7 and Lucy was 8.9. The others all had to do the sugar test and get pricked in the foot 6 times. Josey is lucky and doesn't have to.
